i need to rant about something please...

happy friday - we've made it through another week!!! i so wish i could be at home today, but alas, i don't think that is going to happen...

anyhow, i hopped on her for a reason, i need to vent! it's silly, but it's something that really annoys me and today was especially annoying.

i answer the main phone line at work... i am not a front desk girl here, but rose has it set up so all the main phone calls will roll over to me b/c we don't have a receptionist or anything like that, it's really not a big deal and it has helped me to get to know more about work and who's who and such, so i'm really not complaining, but seriously, i have never worked at a place where i get more random calls from people who will say something like this:

- ring, ring
- p******** g**** - this is amanda -
- (in a typically dull or angry tone) - yeah, you just called me
- no sir or ma'am, it wasn't me, was it perhaps someone who works here?
- (again, in a demanding or upset tone) - well, i duhn't know - what do you do?!?
- so i explain to them what we do and this is usually followed by silence, since alot of people don't really get what we do (even i don't get what we do some days!!!)
- well, SOMEONE called me and i want to know why
- well, did they leave a voicemail?
- no, but i have a missed call from this number
- well, i'm sorry, this is a large company and it could have been anyone, can i take your name and number and look into it further
- no, just don't call me again

and that's usually that. occasionally i'll get some random guy who hears insurance and then wants to ask if we can sell him insurance (we can't) OR they want to tell me all about their insurance they currently have (sorry buddy, i don't care)

more times then not though the person is pissed, i mean, how dare someone call them and not leave a message

my question in my mind that i ALWAYS want to ask is, do you really have nothing better to do than call everyone who you have a missed call from and interogate them? do you really want to waste your minutes tracking down someone who called you but didn't care enough to leave a voicemail? does it matter!?! and these people get angry with me?!? why????

you know the other that happens alot around here is that some SpEd likes to call 911 and then hang up! so then i get the call back from the cops asking is everything ok and then i have to sheepishly explain, that yes, we're all alive, well and breathing, but that some retard can't seem to dial out long distance or doesn't have enough common sense to stay on the line like the commercials tell you to and explain to the operater that you've made a mistake.

ugh! ok, rant over - but seriously, do they have nothing better to do than call back every missed call?!? blah!
