ok, so we don't even officially OWN our home yet - but already we're spending oodles at lowe's! tonight was our last free evening together before we move in on saturday, so we swung by the store after work to buy oh so exciting things like... new locks for the front and back door, b/c a) i'm obsessed with feeling safe in the new place and b) the one's in the house are an icky gold color and i don't want anything gold in the house. we also purchased smoke detectors and cleaning supplies since we actually have real floors to clean. i'm very excited to say we now own a real dust mop, which i love. it's like a swiffer you don't throw away - it goes in the wash! that makes the little greenie in me happy. we also finally got a new broom, dustpan and a real mop! oh the things that make you happy when you grow up :-) we've got the comcast guy coming as well as the electric and water lined up to be turned on - all that's left to do is the trash pick-up. ahh! friday will be here before we know it!
so being in lowe's today made me a little blue. dad was a manger at a lowes. i miss him. so much it hurts some days. and i absolutely can't stand that i can't remember our last "real" conversation. he was sick for so long and before that had been acting so strangely that i can't remember at all talking to him when he would have still been healthy. our little family also got some more sad news last monday. my sweet, amazing, wonderful auntie kathy passed away very unexpectedly from lung failure. she was my momma's sister and a beloved part of our family and will be greatly missed. i meant to call her on sunday and i didn't - i thought, i'll call her tomorrow - what's the rush... i wish so much i had called her.
i'm sorry for all the sadness. it's been a tough twelve months. it's almost spring though and if nothing else, the seasons remind us that after winter comes new wonderful life and i know that even though things have been sad and hard, God always promises a new day, a new breath, a new moment. His ways are not our ways and we have to rest in the promise that He's got it all under control - even when we don't know what on earth is going on.
